We had our first day of the 2013-2014 school year today!
I was going to have the older kids do some work on FLVS, but when I heard they were going to common core studies, I opted out. They are taking science and English courses on the Ron Paul Curriculum website ( I am really impressed with their professionalism) and Noah is studying Euclid Geometry on Khan Academy! The "little ones" are beginning American History this year- for vocabulary/spelling they are using Wordly Wise and Explode the Code (two great books, very suited for short attention spans :) ). I am really looking forward to the rest of the year! Yay!
I don't know about the rest of you, but we have had one WET summer! I cannot remember a wetter wet season. As you can see in the picture below, our side field is now a lake. Our property sits fairly high compared to our neighbors, but we are still drowning. I hope it stops soon so we can enjoy some cooler fall weather!
I was so excited about starting school, I had to take a picture of my nearly-clean school area :) Annalee does a lot of her crafting projects in the same area, so I can't take credit for the all messy spots...
Meet Queenie! She is a Guinea hen (hopefully) and the newest addition to our flock. A friend gave her to us, and she is fitting right in :)
Roy would love to get a hold of our Rooster, Loogie. Here they are, having a stare down...
Sorry, this is the only people picture I could find! This is Elena and her friends at volleyball practice.... on a very, very hot, sunny day. Unfortunately, she is not the volleyball nut I was as a kid. This was her first and LAST practice :(
