Movin' to the Country...

Well, the word's out- we are moving to a new home! Our new place is in North Fort Myers, only about a 30 minute drive from the old house... but, the landscape couldn't be more different. As you can see from the pictures, North Fort Myers has much more green than the Cape, but it is still very tropical-looking. There are many plants on our property that I have never encountered before! Luckily, right down the road from us is a place called ECHO Farms- it is a Christian-based organization dedicated to solving the problem of world hunger. Check out their website! ECHO has a large bookstore and garden, as well as many kind and educated employees.

Here's the house! It was in need of a lot of clean-up because the previous owners left it empty for about 4 years. Andy has been working his magic, and we are now in the painting stage! After working on this place for over a month, we can finally see the end of the tunnel ;)

This is the front pasture where I would like to put a milking cow one day...

Here's the oak-covered drive leading up to the house...

There's also a creek that runs through the property. The kids have adopted a large soft-shelled turtle that lives here, and it has gotten very friendly with them! He eats right out of their hands!

The kids love our "climbing tree" right next to the house. We think this oak has got to be 200 years old!

This is the larger of our two chicken coops... maybe one day I'll have some meat birds out there!

The second coop is in the left of this picture. The oak in the foreground has an air plant hanging onto it. I just love all the cool vegetation down here...

There are three other out-buildings on our 9.5 acres that Andy will use for various projects, as well as a one-bedroom apartment for any future visitors :) There's a lot to be done, but we are up for the challenge!

Stay tuned for pictures of the finished house (maybe mid-July?). My first projects after moving in will be chickens and canning!
